چکیده

A radio source of the Fanaroff–Riley type II with the angular size of 11.3 arc min is identified with an optical galaxy at z = 0.229. Thus, the projected linear extent of the radio structure is 3.14 Mpc which makes it the third largest classical double radio source known after 3C236 and WNB2147+816. The highfrequency VLA observations, a galaxy identification and its optical spectroscopy are reported. The equipartition magnetic field and energy density in the source is calculated and compared with corresponding parameters of other giants known, indicating that either parameter of the source investigated is extremely low. On the other hand, the age estimate of relativistic electrons and the advance speed of the lobe material are comparable to the respective parameters characterizing other low-luminosity giant sources, as well as much smaller and brighter 3CR sources. The environment analysis suggests that J1343+3758 lies in a significantly poor region of intergalactic medium.

Chandra and Xmm-newton Observations of a Sample of Low-redshift Fri and Frii Radio-galaxy Nuclei

We present spectral results, from Chandra and XMM-Newton observations, of a sample of 22 low-redshift (z < 0.1) radio galaxies, and consider whether the core emission originates from the base of a relativistic jet, an accretion flow, or contains contributions from both. We find correlations between the unabsorbed X-ray, radio, and optical fluxes and luminosities of FRI-type radio-galaxy cores, ...

1 Abstract Shock heating by radio jets is potentially an important process in a range of environments as it will increase the entropy of the heated gas. Although this process is expected to occur in the most powerful radio-loud AGN, strong shocks have so far only been detected in nearby low-power radio galaxies. Here we discuss X-ray detections of strong shocks in nearby galaxies, including a n...

Luminosity function, sizes and FR dichotomy of radio-loud AGN

The radio luminosity function (RLF) of radio galaxies and radio-loud quasars is often modelled as a broken power-law. The break luminosity is close to the dividing line between the two Fanaroff-Riley (FR) morphological classes for the large-scale radio structure of these objects. We use an analytical model for the luminosity and size evolution of FRII-type objects together with a simple prescri...

The evolution of the Fundamental Plane of radio galaxies from z ∼ 0.5 to the present day

We present deep spectroscopic data for a 24-object subsample of our full 41-object z ∼ 0.5 radio galaxy sample in order to investigate the evolution of the Fundamental Plane of radio galaxies. We find that the low-luminosity, FRI-type, radio galaxies in our sample are consistent with the local Fundamental Plane of radio galaxies defined by Bettoni et al. when corrected for simple passive evoluti...

Frii Radio Sources in Rich Clusters of Galaxies

A sample of FRII radio sources in rich clusters of galaxies, both at high (z0.5) and low (z0) redshift, has been constructed to study the eeect of environment on radio sources. Comparisons are made between the properties of FRII sources in cluster and non-cluster environments, and between X-ray clusters with and without FRII sources. The principal results are the following: 1. Most low-redshift...
